Project Title: Uttarakhand Deaf Mutism Registry with  Multi Centric Descriptive Exploratory Study to find out Pre, Peri and Post Natal Risk Factors and Causes of Delay in Treatment of Deaf Mutism in Patients Visiting Tertiary Care Centers of Uttarakhand .

Name of the Institute: All India Institute of Medical Science Rishikesh.

Objective: To create an Uttarakhand - Deaf - Mutism Registry (UDMR) and find out prevalence of Pre, Peri and Post Natal Risk Factors associated with Deaf Mutism and the factors causing delay in treatment of patients presenting in tertiary care centers of Uttarakhand using a pre validated Questionnaire .

Study Design: Multi Centric Descriptive Exploratory Study Design

Study Material: All the consenting patients diagnosed as Deaf Mute after proper hearing and speech evaluation

Interventions:  All the tertiary care medical institutes of Uttarakhand will be registered through a website which can be directly used to enter the data or upload scanned copy of a pre validated questionnaire all the patients who are diagnosed as deaf mute after complete clinical examination and audio logical investigations will be asked to fill a pre validated questionnaire with the help of a health care worker.

Main Outcome Measures: The data collected from the questionnaire will be entered on the website by the co investigators from different institutes, who are pre registered with the project on voluntary basis. The data shall be collected in ENT Department AIIMS Rishikesh and  analyzed by descriptive and inferential statics.

Scope of the project: The results will reflects the disease/disability load and regional variations in the prevalence pf risk factors associated with Deaf Mutism in the patients presenting in the OPDs of tertiary care of Uttarakhand This will help the health agencies and government to understand the magnitude of problems in their zones and make policies to Minimize the preventable risk factors and hence the handicap of Deaf Mutism.
